Username Generator
Ideas for a username from friendly everyday words, with a word of your own if you like, sized to fit the site’s length limit.
Letters and digits only; up to 20 characters are used.
Ideas are made in this page and what you type stays on your device. No site is contacted, so whether a name is taken isn’t checked.
Find a username you like
A new game, forum or social account asks for a username, and the obvious ones are already gone. This tool suggests names built from friendly everyday words, with a word of your own if you like, sized to fit the site’s limit. A username is a name, not a secret: other people see it, so it doesn’t need to be random or strong. For the password that goes with it, use the Password Generator.
How to use it
- Pick a style: an adjective and a noun, a noun and a number, or two nouns.
- Type a word to include, if you like, such as a hobby, a nickname or a team.
- Choose a separator and a length limit that match the site’s rules.
- Copy the ones you like and try them on the site. Press More ideas for a new batch.
What the options do
- Style: sets which kinds of word are combined. Your own word takes the place of one of them.
- Separator: many sites allow underscores; some allow dots or hyphens, and some allow only letters and digits. Capitals make a name with no separator easier to read.
- Length limit: names longer than the limit are left out. Fifteen characters fits many sites, but check the sign-up page.
- How many: from 5 to 30 ideas at a time, with no repeats in a list.
Choosing a good username
- Leave out personal details such as your full name, birth year or hometown; they make you easier to find and to impersonate.
- Make it easy to say and spell if people will look you up or mention you.
- Think about linking accounts: the same name on every site lets people connect those accounts. Use different names where you’d rather they didn’t.
- Think ahead: a name that suits a game account may not suit a work or school one, so keep a simpler name for those.
Good to know
- Availability isn’t checked: the tool doesn’t contact any site, so it can’t tell whether a name is taken. The site will tell you when you try it.
- Words: the adjectives and nouns come from short lists written for this site, picked with your browser’s secure random generator.
- Private: what you type stays on your device; nothing is logged, sent or saved.
