Hide what shouldn’t be shared, before you share it
A screenshot of a group chat shows other people’s names and numbers; a street photo shows a neighbor’s license plate or a parcel label with your address. Before you share the picture, cover those parts: this tool puts a box over each one and burns the effect into a new copy.
How to use it
- Choose a picture or drop it on the box above: JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF or BMP, up to 50 MB and 40 megapixels.
- Drag across each thing you want to hide. You can draw up to 50 boxes.
- Pick an effect and its strength. The preview shows the result on every box.
- Download the picture as JPG, PNG or WebP, then open the copy and check it before you share it.
Fixing a box
Tap or click a box to select it, drag it to move it, or drag a corner to resize it; Delete box removes it. With a keyboard, Add a box puts one in the middle, Tab moves between boxes, the arrow keys move one, Shift with the arrow keys resizes it, and Delete removes it.
Which effect to choose
- Pixelate, the default, turns each box into large flat squares. Big blocks hide faces and plates well.
- Blur smooths each box into a soft haze; a strong blur hides faces and cars well.
- Solid black leaves nothing behind. Use it for text such as names, phone numbers, account numbers and addresses.
Take care with text. A light blur or small blocks can sometimes be undone or guessed, because short text in a familiar font leaves patterns that can be matched. Strong settings make that much harder. A solid box replaces the pixels underneath, so nothing of them is left, though its width can still hint at how long the text was.
Good to know
- Private: the picture is opened and changed in this page, on your device. Nothing is uploaded, sent or saved.
- A new picture: the download is full size, with the boxes burned in. Your original file stays as it was.
- No metadata: because the picture is drawn again, the download carries none of the original’s metadata, such as location, camera or date. To remove that without changing the picture, use the EXIF Remover.
- Other jobs: to cut something out of the frame instead, use Crop Image. For a PDF, Redact PDF removes the text itself. An animated GIF opens as its first frame only.
