Meme Maker
Open a photo you took or have the right to use, type the top and bottom text, and download the meme at the photo’s own size.
Use a picture you took yourself or have the right to use. This tool comes with no templates and no pictures of famous people: you bring your own.
Drop your picture here, or
JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF or BMP · one picture, up to 50 MB and 40 megapixels
The download is a new picture with the text burned in, at the picture’s own size (at most 4,000 pixels on the longer side). It carries none of the original’s metadata, such as location, camera or date.
Your picture is opened on this device. Nothing is uploaded, sent or saved.
Your photo, your words
A caption across the top and bottom of a photo can turn it into a joke for the group chat: the dog who stole the sandwich, the office plant that survived the holidays, the cake that didn’t rise. This tool adds that classic bold, outlined text to a picture of your own.
How to use it
- Choose a picture or drop it on the box above: JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF or BMP, up to 50 MB and 40 megapixels.
- Type the top text, the bottom text, or both. Middle text is there if you need it.
- Keep capital letters on for the classic look, or turn them off.
- Pick white letters with a black outline, or black letters with a white one for a light picture.
- Check the preview, then download the meme as JPG or PNG.
Use pictures you have the right to use
Use photos you took yourself, or ones you have permission to use. This tool has no templates and no pictures of famous people: the well-known meme pictures, film stills and celebrity photos are someone else’s work. And before you share a photo of a friend, a coworker or a stranger, ask them first.
How the text fits
- Each block of text starts large and shrinks until it fits the picture’s width and up to 30% of its height. Long text wraps onto more lines first.
- A very long word is split across lines instead of shrinking everything else.
- The outline is drawn first and the letters on top, so it frames each letter without covering it.
Good to know
- Size: the download is the picture’s own size, up to 4,000 pixels on the longer side. A larger picture is scaled down to that.
- JPG or PNG: JPG makes smaller files for photos; PNG keeps screenshots crisp and see-through parts clear.
- Private: the picture is opened and changed in this page, on your device. Nothing is uploaded, sent or saved, and the download carries none of the original’s metadata.
- Other jobs: to cut the picture to the part that matters first, use Crop Image. To make the meme a smaller file for a chat app, use the Image Compressor. An animated GIF opens as its first frame.
