Let the wheel decide, fairly
What to cook tonight, which chore comes next, which game to play, who answers the next question: small choices go quicker when a wheel makes the call and everyone can watch it happen. Type the choices, spin, and the wheel stops on one. Every slice is the same size, so every entry has exactly the same chance, and the page shows it.
How to use it
- Type or paste your entries, one per line: 2 to 100 of them, each up to 60 characters. Press Fill in example entries to try it first.
- Press Spin or click the wheel. With the keyboard, move to the wheel or the Spin button and press Space or Enter.
- The result appears under the wheel and goes into the list of results for this visit.
- To go round until everyone has had a turn, tick Take each result off the wheel.
What the options do
- Take each result off the wheel: the entry it lands on sits out the following spins until you press Put all back. Handy for choosing an order, such as who presents first, second and third.
- Equal slices, always: there are no weights to tip the balance. To give an entry two chances, put it on two lines; the chance line then shows it, for example 2 in 7.
- Long entries are shortened on the wheel with an ellipsis (…) and shown in full in the result.
How it stays fair
The result is chosen before the wheel moves. Your browser’s secure random number generator, crypto.getRandomValues, picks one slice, drawn so that none is favored: any random number that would tip the balance is thrown away and drawn again. The wheel then turns to land on that slice. How hard you click, where the wheel starts and how long you wait make no difference. If your device is set to reduce motion, the wheel lands at once.
