Unzip Files

Choose or drop a ZIP to see everything inside it, then save one file or all of them. It’s opened on your device: nothing is uploaded.

Drop a ZIP here, or

One ZIP of up to 25 MB. It’s opened on your device; nothing is uploaded.

Safety limits against ZIP bombs

  • ZIPs of up to 2,000 entries.
  • Up to 500 MB unpacked in all.
  • No file that would grow to more than 100 times its packed size (past 1 MB), and none past the size the ZIP lists for it.

Everything happens on this page, on your device: your ZIP is never uploaded or saved.

See inside a ZIP and take out what you need

A ZIP from an email, a school portal or a download site may hold one file you want among fifty you don’t. This page lists everything inside it first, so you can see what’s there before anything lands in your downloads, then save only the files you choose. It runs in your browser, so it also works on a borrowed or locked-down computer where you can’t install an unzip program.

How to use it

  1. Choose a ZIP of up to 25 MB, or drop it on the box.
  2. Read the list: each entry’s path, size, packed size and date.
  3. Press Download beside a file, or Download all to save every file one after another.
  4. For a text file, press Show the start to read its first 2,000 characters without saving it.

What the list tells you

  • Packed size: how much room the file takes inside the ZIP. Text packs small; photos hardly shrink.
  • Date: as stored in the ZIP, which records no time zone.
  • Folders: listed so you can see how the ZIP is laid out, though only files are saved.
  • Encrypted, or packed an unusual way: named beside the file, which isn’t unpacked.
  • Paths with “..” or a leading “/”: shown as they are and flagged. Such paths can point outside the folder you unzip into, so they’re never used as folders here.

Safety checks

Every check works from the sizes the ZIP lists, before anything is unpacked, and a file that unpacks to more than its listed size is stopped there. Each finished file is compared with the check value (CRC-32) stored for it, so a damaged one is never saved. Previews are shown as plain text only, never as a web page, so nothing in them can run.

Good to know

  • One ZIP at a time, and ZIPs inside it stay packed: save one and open it here in turn.
  • Folders are flattened when you save, because each file is a download of its own. To keep them, unzip with your computer’s own tools.
  • 7z and RAR archives aren’t ZIPs: the page names them, but can’t open them.
  • Nothing is uploaded or saved. Closing the page clears it.
  • Downloaded it from a site that publishes checksums? The Hash Generator checks the ZIP is the one they made before you open it.

Frequently asked questions

Why are the files saved one at a time, without their folders?
This page saves each file as a download of its own, and your browser puts each one straight into your downloads folder. So the folder structure is flattened, and a name that comes up twice gets a number, as in notes (2).txt. To keep the folders, unzip it with your computer’s own tools instead.
What is a ZIP bomb?
A small ZIP built to unpack to an enormous size, enough to fill a disk or freeze the program opening it. This page reads the sizes the ZIP lists before unpacking anything, opens ZIPs of up to 2,000 entries, unpacks up to 500 MB in all, and leaves packed any file that would grow to more than 100 times its packed size.
Can it open password-protected ZIPs?
No. Encrypted files are listed and marked as encrypted, and so are files packed with a method other than the usual two (stored and deflate), such as BZIP2, LZMA or Zstandard: each is named, never guessed. 7z and RAR archives aren’t ZIPs, and the page says so.
Is my ZIP uploaded?
No. Your browser reads it and unpacks each file on your device, in a background worker that can’t send anything anywhere. Nothing is uploaded, sent or saved, and closing the page clears it.
