The tool has no public holidays built in, for any country. Add the ones that apply to you, written as 2026-12-25, December 25, 2026 or 25 December 2026.

This counts the working days between two dates you know. To find the date a number of working days after a day, use the Notice Period Calculator. Nothing you type is sent or saved.

Count the working days between two dates

Project plans, delivery promises and leave requests are often counted in working days, not calendar days. Counting them on a calendar means skipping weekends and holidays one by one, and over a long span mistakes creep in. This calculator counts them for you, with the weekend days you work to and the holidays you list, and shows how the total is made up.

How to use it

  1. Pick a start date and an end date. Both are counted unless you untick them.
  2. Tick your weekend days. Saturday and Sunday are ticked to begin with.
  3. Type or paste your holidays into the box, one or more per line.
  4. Read the working days, with the calendar days, weekend days and holidays taken away to reach them.

Writing the holidays

  • Formats: 2026-12-25, December 25, 2026, Dec 25 2026 or 25 December 2026. Other words on the same line, such as a holiday’s name, are ignored.
  • Dates written only in numbers, such as 03/04/2026, are refused, because the day and month could be either way round.
  • Holidays on a weekend day aren’t taken away a second time, and holidays outside your dates are ignored. The tool lists each case, so you can check it read your list correctly.
  • A date listed twice counts once.
  • Pasting a list from a calendar or a spreadsheet works: any line the tool can’t read is shown back to you, so nothing is skipped without you knowing.

Worked examples

  • October 2026, Saturday and Sunday off: 31 calendar days, 9 weekend days and 22 working days.
  • The same month with a holiday on Monday, October 12: 21 working days.
  • A Friday and Saturday weekend: October 2026 has five of each, so 21 working days.

Good to know

  • No holiday data: the tool knows no public holidays for any country. Check the list your employer or government publishes and add those dates.
  • Counting forward instead? To find the date a number of working days after a given day, use the Notice Period Calculator.
  • Calendar time: for a span in years, months and days, use the Date Difference Calculator.
  • Whole days only: half days and part-time patterns aren’t counted separately, so adjust the total by hand for those.
  • Private: nothing you type is sent or saved, and reloading the page clears it.

Frequently asked questions

Does it know public holidays?
No. Holidays differ by country, region and employer, so the tool has none built in. Type or paste the holidays that apply to you, one or more per line, and it takes away each one that falls on a working day between your dates.
Are the start and end dates counted?
Both are counted unless you untick them, so Monday to Friday of one week is 5 working days. Untick Count the start date or Count the end date to leave either out, for example to count only the days after a given day.
My weekend isn’t Saturday and Sunday. Can I change it?
Yes. Tick whichever days are your weekend: Friday and Saturday, Sunday only, or two days midweek if you work a rota. Untick every day to count all calendar days as working days.
How do I find the date a number of working days from now?
That’s the opposite question: this tool counts the days between two dates you already know. To find the date 10 working days after a given day, use the Notice Period Calculator, which counts forward in working days.
