Thread Splitter

Paste a long text, set the characters per post, and get a numbered thread cut at sentence ends, ready to copy one post at a time.

0 characters

Up to 50,000 characters. Blank lines between paragraphs help the posts end in the right places.

Each site sets its own limit and can change it, so check the number on the site you post to.

Numbering

Paste or type your text to split it into posts.

Characters are counted as you see them: an accented letter or an emoji is one, and so is a line break. Sites count some things their own way, such as links, emoji and some scripts, so leave a few characters spare.

Your text stays on this page, on your device: nothing is posted, sent or saved.

Turn a long post into a thread that reads well

Most social sites cap how long a post can be, so a longer thought goes out as a thread: a run of short posts, one after another. Cutting it by hand means counting, trimming and renumbering every time you change a word. Paste your text here, set the limit, and the posts are cut at sensible places, numbered and ready to copy.

    How to use it

    1. Paste or type your text. Press Fill in an example to try it first.
    2. Set the characters per post, or press one of the common limits.
    3. Choose where the number goes: at the end, at the start, or nowhere.
    4. Copy each post as you publish it, or press Copy all to keep the whole thread in one piece.

    Where the posts are cut

    • At a paragraph break or the end of a sentence wherever it can, so each post reads as whole sentences.
    • At a space when one sentence is too long for a post on its own.
    • Inside a word only when that word is longer than a whole post, such as a very long link.
    • Spaces are tidied: runs of spaces become one, and line breaks inside a post stay where you put them.

    Counting characters

Characters are counted the way you see them: an accented letter, a flag or an emoji with a skin tone is one character, and a line break is one. The number, such as 2/7, and the space beside it count inside the limit. Sites don’t all count alike: some count every link as a set length however long it is, and some count an emoji or a character from some scripts as two. Leave a few characters spare, and check the site’s own limit, which can change.

    Good to know

    • Nothing is posted for you. The tool isn’t connected to any site; you paste each post yourself.
    • Your text stays on your device. Nothing is sent or saved, and reloading the page clears it.
    • Limits: up to 50,000 characters at a time, cut into at most 999 posts.
    • Only need a count? The Word and Character Counter counts words and characters as you type; this tool splits the text into posts that fit.

    Frequently asked questions

Does the number count toward the limit?
Yes. The number, such as 3/8, and the space beside it are counted inside each post’s limit, with room kept for a two- or three-digit total when the thread is that long. A text that fits in a single post gets no number.
Why does a site say my post is longer than this tool does?
Each site counts in its own way. Some count every link as a set number of characters, however long it is, and some count an emoji or a character from some scripts as two. This tool counts characters as you see them, so leave a few spare.
Can it post the thread for me?
No. It isn’t connected to any social site and never signs in to one. It cuts and numbers your text; you copy each post and publish it yourself.
    Is my text sent anywhere?
No. The text is split by this page, on your device. Nothing is sent, saved or put in the page address, and closing the page clears it.
