When a form only takes 100 KB

Some online application and registration forms accept files of only 100 KB. A single page from a phone scanner can be several times that. This tool tries to bring each PDF to 100 KB or less, keeping as much quality as the limit allows.

How to use it

  1. Choose up to 10 PDFs, each up to 100 MB, or drop them on the box.
  2. Press Compress to 100 KB.
  3. Read each result's note: either "Under 100 KB" with the size before and after, or the smallest size it could reach. Then download.

How it gets there

The photos and scans inside the PDF are re-saved, starting gently: up to 2,000 pixels on the longest side at good quality. If the file is still too big, it tries again, smaller and at a lower quality each time, down to 640 pixels at low quality, and stops at the first version that fits. Text, fonts and drawings are never touched, so real text stays sharp and searchable.

What 100 KB really means

100 KB is tight. A one-page scan usually fits, a few pages often do, and a long document full of photos usually won't. When it fits, the pictures are smaller and softer than the original, so open the result and check that every word and number you need is still easy to read before you upload it.

KB, the way forms count it

Here 100 KB means 100,000 bytes. Some forms count a kilobyte as 1,024 bytes instead, which makes their limit slightly larger, so a file this tool brings under 100 KB passes either way. The note on each result gives the exact size it reached.

If it won't fit

  • Send fewer pages. Split PDF can save just the pages the form asks for, and each page alone is far more likely to fit.
  • Scan again, more simply. Gray instead of color, and 150 DPI instead of 300, makes much smaller scans of ordinary paper documents.
  • Crop photos of documents to the edge of the paper before making the PDF, so no table or floor is saved with them.

If 100 KB is more than you need, Compress PDF to 200 KB keeps more detail, and Compress PDF lets you pick the strength yourself.

Frequently asked questions

Will every PDF fit in 100 KB?
No. A PDF shrinks here only as far as its photos and scans allow. If it can’t reach 100 KB, you get the smallest version and a note with its size, so you can decide what to do next.
Why does the result look softer than the original?
To fit 100 KB, scanned pages and photos are saved smaller and at a lower quality. Text that is real text in the PDF stays sharp; text that is part of a scan softens with the picture.
My PDF is mostly text. Will this help?
Probably not much, because a text-only PDF is usually small already and its text isn’t changed. If it’s still over 100 KB, sending fewer pages is the most reliable fix.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Your browser does the work, and the result is saved straight to your device.
