How to turn a PDF into images
- Choose up to five PDFs, each up to 100 MB.
- Pick JPG or PNG, a resolution, and the pages you want. Leave Pages empty to convert every page.
- Press Convert pages, then download the images one by one or all together as a ZIP.
Choosing the resolution
Resolution is set in dots per inch (DPI): how many pixels each inch of the page becomes.
- 72 DPI gives the page at its own size on screen, with the smallest files. Fine for a quick look.
- 150 DPI is sharp on phones, laptops and in emails, and suits most uses.
- 300 DPI is for printing, or for zooming into small print. An A4 or US Letter page comes out at about 2,500 × 3,300 pixels.
Each page is capped at 16 million pixels so that phones can draw it. A poster-sized page at 300 DPI goes over that, so it’s drawn at the highest resolution that fits, and the note under the image gives the DPI used.
JPG or PNG?
JPG makes smaller files and suits pages with photos. PNG keeps every edge crisp and suits pages of text, diagrams or charts, but its files are bigger. Either way, each page is drawn on a white background, as it would print.
How the pages are drawn
Each page is drawn the way it would print: text, pictures, shapes, filled-in form fields and stamps. Most PDFs carry their own fonts and look exactly as they should. If a PDF leaves a font out, your device’s closest font stands in, so the lettering can look slightly different from the original. Images are named after the file and the page, such as invoice-page-2.jpg.
Several PDFs at once
You can convert up to five PDFs in one go with the same settings. Each image is named after its own file, so pages from different PDFs never mix up in the ZIP. If one file can’t be read, the others still convert and that one gets its own message. A long PDF at 300 DPI makes a lot of large images, so try a few pages first if you only need some, and keep an eye on the space left on your phone.
Protected files
A PDF that opens without a password but blocks editing or copying converts normally. One that needs a password to open can’t be read here: open it in your PDF reader, save an unprotected copy, and convert that.
