- Press Add watermark and download the stamped copies.
What a watermark is for
A text watermark labels every page at a glance: DRAFT on a document still being reviewed, CONFIDENTIAL on something not to be passed on, SAMPLE or COPY on a version that isn't the original, or your name on a portfolio you're sharing. Because it's on every page, the label stays with any page that's printed, screenshotted or forwarded on its own.
How it looks
- Corner to corner runs the text along each page's diagonal, the classic watermark look; straight across sets it level through the middle.
- Size is relative to each page, so a mix of A4, Letter and landscape pages all get a well-proportioned stamp.
- Strength sets how see-through the gray text is. Light keeps the page easiest to read; Strong is hard to miss.
Pages that are stored turned, such as a landscape table in a portrait report, get the watermark the right way up as you see them.
What it doesn't do
A watermark is a label, not a lock. It's drawn into the PDF, so it shows in every reader and prints with the page, but anyone with PDF-editing software could remove it, and it doesn't stop copying or printing. The text uses a standard PDF font, which covers English and other Western European languages; text in other alphabets can't be drawn, and the tool says so rather than printing boxes.
The rest of the file
Everything else in the PDF stays as it was: text remains selectable and searchable, and links, bookmarks and form fields are kept. Each file keeps its name with "-watermarked" added. To number the pages as well, run the result through Add Page Numbers to PDF.
