Present a PDF as slides

Sometimes a document has to go on a screen: a report in a meeting, a handout at a talk, a set of charts someone sent as a PDF. Presenting from a PDF reader works, but a presentation app gives you full-screen slides, a clicker, speaker notes and the chance to add a title slide or skip a page. This tool turns each page into a slide, ready to present.

How to convert

  1. Choose up to 5 PDFs, each up to 100 MB.
  2. Pick the sharpness: standard suits most screens; high is sharper on large displays.
  3. Press Convert to PowerPoint and download the .pptx file, named after your PDF.

What you get

One slide for each page, in order. Each slide holds a picture of its page, so fonts, layout and charts look exactly as in the PDF. The slides take the shape of the first page: a portrait PDF gives portrait slides, a landscape one gives widescreen-style slides. A page of a different shape is fitted inside its slide, centred, with white space around it.

Making it your own

  • Add slides: a title slide, a closing slide or a section divider, made in PowerPoint around the pages.
  • Add notes: each slide has room for speaker notes, which only you see while presenting.
  • Draw attention: add arrows, boxes or text boxes on top of a page picture to point at what matters.

Presenting it well

Start the slide show rather than scrolling through slides, so each page fills the screen. With a second screen, presenter view shows your notes and the next slide while the audience sees only the page. In a large room, or on a big television, choose high sharpness so small print and chart labels stay crisp. A portrait document on a widescreen display leaves space at the sides; that’s expected, since every page keeps its own shape.

Good to know

  • Text on the slides isn’t editable or searchable, because it’s part of the picture. PDF to Word gives you the text to edit.
  • Long PDFs make large files: each page is a picture. Standard sharpness keeps the size down.
  • Only some pages? Take them out first with Extract PDF Pages.

Frequently asked questions

Can I edit the text on the slides?
Not directly: each slide holds a picture of its page, so the slides look exactly like the PDF. You can add text boxes, shapes and notes on top, reorder and delete slides, and present as usual. For editable text, use PDF to Word.
Why pictures and not editable slides?
Rebuilding a PDF page as editable PowerPoint shapes usually moves things around and changes fonts. A picture per slide keeps every page exactly as it looks, which is what you want for presenting a finished document.
Which programs open the file?
PowerPoint, and other presentation apps that open .pptx files, such as Keynote, Google Slides and LibreOffice Impress.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Your own browser draws the pages and builds the presentation, which is saved straight to your device.
