Photos under 50 KB
50 KB is a limit you'll meet on some profile-picture fields, staff and student photo uploads, and online forms. It's small enough that a phone photo always needs shrinking, but big enough to keep a face or a document clearly readable. This tool brings each image to 50 KB or less and gives up as little quality as it can.
How to use it
- Choose up to 30 images, each up to 50 MB: JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF or BMP.
- Keep "Save as" on JPG for photos.
- Press Compress to 50 KB, look at the results, and download them.
What happens to each image
The tool first tries to fit 50 KB by lowering the JPG quality alone, searching for the highest quality that fits. Only if that isn't enough does it shrink the picture, 15% at a time, keeping its shape. Each result's note says what happened: the new size, or the dimensions it was resized to. An image that was already under 50 KB and can't get smaller comes back as it was.
Why JPG is the default
JPG can trade a little invisible detail for a much smaller file, which is exactly what a size limit needs. PNG can't: its only way to get smaller is to lose pixels, so a PNG screenshot kept as PNG may come out tiny. Choose "Same as the original" only if the form accepts nothing else. Transparent areas in a PNG become white in a JPG.
Privacy, and what's removed
Your photos never leave your device. The compressed copies also drop the hidden details photos carry, such as the phone model, the date and the GPS location, and come out the right way up even if the phone stored them sideways. If saving an image again would only make it bigger, as with one already well under 50 KB, you get the original back exactly as it was, details and all.
Need a different size?
For a stricter limit there's Compress Image to 20 KB; with more room, 100 KB keeps photos sharper. The Image Compressor takes any size or quality you choose.
