Why convert SVG to PNG
SVG stores a drawing as shapes and lines rather than pixels, which is why logos, icons and diagrams are often made as SVG: they stay sharp at any size. But many places only take ordinary images. Social networks, office documents, email signatures, app stores and most upload forms want a PNG or a JPG. PNG is the natural choice for a logo or icon, because it keeps edges crisp and the background transparent.
How to convert
- Choose up to 30 SVG files, each up to 10 MB. You can also drop them on the box.
- Pick a size (below).
- Press Convert to PNG, then download each PNG, or all of them together as a ZIP.
Choosing the size
Because an SVG is redrawn rather than stretched, every size comes out sharp. “Its own size” uses the width and height written in the SVG; many icons are only 24 or 48 pixels, so 2×, the default, suits most screens, and 4× suits print or zooming in. A fixed width, such as 1024 pixels, keeps the shape and sets the height to match. An SVG that gives no size at all is taken as 300 × 150 pixels, the size browsers give it, and the result says so.
How the SVG is drawn
Your browser draws the SVG the same way it shows one on a web page, but as a plain image: any scripts inside it don’t run, and it can’t load anything from the internet. So fonts and pictures the SVG links to on other sites aren’t drawn; pictures stored inside the file are. Text in a font your device doesn’t have is drawn in a similar one. For a logo, the safest SVG has its text turned into outlines, which most design apps can do.
What else to know
- Transparency is kept: anywhere the SVG draws nothing stays see-through.
- Animated SVGs are drawn as a still picture.
- Names:
logo.svgbecomeslogo.png. A file that isn’t a valid SVG gets its own message, and the rest still convert. For a JPG instead, use SVG to JPG.
